Blog-entrepreneur: Your blog’s keywords

by angela.booth on July 4, 2006

It’s vital that you do some keyword research, preferably before you create your blog. Targeting the right keywords can mean the difference between success and failure. When you’re creating a blog as an entrepreneurial venture, you can choose the keywords (and blog topic) which will give you the best earnings. If you’re blogging for someone else as a blogger-for-hire, researching keywords will help you to do a great job for the company which hired you.

Aaron Wall of SEOBook has just released a brilliant new Firefox extension, SEO for Firefox. I just tried it, and it delivers an amazing amount of information which helps you to determine just how competitive a particular market may be.

To use the extension, enable it in Firefox, then type a keyword or phrase into Google or Yahoo. The extension will give you data on the ranking pages, which will help you to see why the pages are ranking, and how competitive the market for that keyword currently is.

Of course, if your chosen blog topic is very competitive, it doesn’t mean you shouldn’t compete, but it does mean that you’ll have to sneak into the market stealthily, focusing on niche keywords before you aim directly for the competitive terms.
