Blogging-entrepreneur: Business 2.0 does the numbers

Business 2.0 comments on Nick Denton selling two of his Gawker Media blogs, and discouraging blog competitors:

…why Denton wouldn’t want too much competition eating away at his margins. According to Denton, his blogs are doing about 60 million pageviews a month. At a $5 CPM (which is a reasonable ad rate for blogs—$5 per thousand pageviews—and one of Gawker Media’s blogs had a pre-discount published ad rate of $6 to $8 CPMs earlier this year) that would mean Denton is pulling in $300,000 a month for Gawker Media as a whole. That is $3.6 million a year. Not bad at this stage of the game.
