Giggle of the Day: Matt Cutts is back

by angela.booth on July 5, 2006

Matt Cutts works for Google. His blog Matt Cutts: Gadgets, Google, and SEO is a must-read for bloggers and webmasters. You need to read Matt to stay up to speed on Web-spam.

As a career-blogger, you WILL one day be asked by a potential employer to take a stroll on the dark side and indulge in a little Web-spamming. Resist. Around 80 per cent of a blog’s readers will find you via Google. Why take the chance that your blog will be banned from Google? You don’t want a reputation as a spammer-for-hire.

If your blog’s site isn’t showing up when you do a “site:myblog.com” search in Google, you’ve been banned. Today in “Reminder: check your sites” Matt wrote:

Just as a reminder, if your website isn’t showing on Google, you should check your own domain. After reading the email from this group, I checked out their domain on Yahoo! for a couple of minutes. I tried doing a site: query on Yahoo! and saw doorway pages on the first results page.

Read Matt Cutts. Not only will you discover what not to do, you’ll also be entertained.
