A new press release service, The WeblogWire, has a tagline that states: “PR and Blogging Unite!”
I heard about the site on Mashable!:
The Weblog Wire, which launched a few moments ago, is an interesting idea in a lot of respects. Firstly, the way it was built - founders Jason Baptiste, Frank Astor and Brian Breslin set out to build a useful web application for under $500 in 2 weeks. That’s a fast turnaround, even for a startup. They didn’t quite launch within the 2 week deadline, but they have successfullly kept the price under $500 - an impressive achievement.
Kudos to WeblogWire for the fast, cheap startup, BUT — and this is a BIG BUT — they want bloggers to register to get the RSS feed.
My first response was, “you’re kidding me, right?” It’s also my second response. I love RSS, and subscribe to way to many feeds, but there’s no way I’d ever register to be able to read a feed, much less a feed which promises nothing but endless streams of (generally woeful, let’s be honest) news releases.
The WeblogWire have accomplished a lot, but they need to get rid of the blogger-register thing. Why, oh why, when they want to put companies in touch with the blogosphere, would they put such a silly restriction on their service?
