Blogging: it’s not about you

by angela.booth on July 23, 2006

Technorati’s a great place to get an overview of what’s happening in the blogosphere. You find bloggers of all levels of experience on Technorati.

After a few minutes’ reading of new blogs, it’s easy to pick the bloggers who get it — that blogging is not about them. It’s about the audience.

Even if you’re writing an intensely personal blog, your thoughts about the meaning of life and existence and what you had for breakfast, it’s not about you. It’s always about the audience. Always.

Ask yourself:

* What takeaway am I giving the reader?

* What’s the moral of this story I’m relating?

* How is the problem I’m talking about universal?

* What did I (and by implication the reader) learn from this?

Make every blog post that you write for your reader. It’s NEVER about you, even when it is.
