Terapad’s a new blogging service which offers a complete package. It’s a mix of blogging tools, a CMS, e-commerce, and a Web site.
It will appeal to new businesses which don’t have a site, and are looking for a complete instant site solution.
I like the idea that you get PayPal and forums built in, but I think the pricing – $18 a month after a 30-day free trial, is high. Typepad’s Pro service is cheaper, and while it doesn’t have all the excellent features of Terapad, it does have longevity.
The challenge with hosted services like Terapad and Typepad is that they are hosted – the sites are on someone else’s servers. While this helps because you don’t need to tinker with site problems, it also means that you can’t extend your hosted site as your site develops and grows, you’re always confined.
It will be interesting to watch Terapad as the service develops.
