There’s a new community trend in Web sites: instead of offering forums for their users, they’re offering MySpace-inspired blogs, photo galleries, and other odds and ends.
For example, check out new health site’s WiredBerries’ Your Place:
Welcome to Your Place. Sign-Up Is Free and Easy.
This is where you, as a member of the WiredBerries community, get to blog, post photos, and share advice on recipes, fitness, outdoor sports, travel, music playlists and movies, or whatever just happens to be on your mind at the moment. When you join WiredBerries, you can opt to upload a photo from your desktop or choose a whole new identity from our gallery of icons. As a Your Place member, your privacy is assured. And if you opt to run Google AdSense text ads on your blog page, you’ll keep 100 percent of the income you earn.
A blog-marketing tactic: develop more blogs, get known
Sites which are offering these “free blog” options are a great marketing opportunity for alert bloggers. Create your own areas on these sites, with a link back to your primary site. Not only does this give you more backlinks, so that your blog rates more highly in the search engines, but it also allows you to spread the news of your blog to people who might otherwise never come across your blog.
Look for sites in your subject area which offer these features. If you can’t find one today, you will tomorrow. It’s a definite trend.
