Blog traffic: it takes time to develop trust

by angela.booth on October 16, 2006

Blogging gets you traffic, right? You choose a set of keywords, develop a blog based on them, and via the magic of social networks (tag and ping), you develop enviable streams of traffic.

Yes – and no.

Yes, you will get traffic, and that traffic will increase over time, once your blog is trusted. Developing that trust needs to be your first concern.

Getting the search engines to trust your blogs
Blogs can and do get de-indexed from search engines. One day, high traffic, the next, zero.

You develop trust by creating a genuine blog, with real information for real people. This sounds boring, and I’ve had many messages from people who want to speed the process: “Isn’t there a way to AUTOMATE a blog?”

I don’t advise you to construct a blog that’s essentially a splog – a spam blog, with scraped data from other sites, or with datafeeds from merchants. Look on your blog as a business, that will bring you income for years, IF you take the time to build it, gain trust, and gain traffic that increases week by week.
