When your blog is your Web site

One of the major benefits of using a blog as a Web site is the lack of fuss – you don’t need to figure out how to design a site, and you don’t need to spend big money on site design. That’s been done for you.

So how do you turn your blog into a site?

Blogs are Web sites in which entries are made in reverse chronological order. Every blog entry pushes previous entries down the home page. This is a nuisance if you want a “standard” home page with the usual type of information, because your home page is continually changing.

A couple of easy options to turn a blog into a Web site

Option 1: Create a Web site home page and run your site in a folder or sub-domain of your site

I use this option on a couple of my sites. For example, Fab Freelance Writing has a blog which lives in a folder on the site.

Option 2: If you use WordPress, create a static home page with a plugin

Of all the blogging platforms, WordPress makes it easiest to create a site which looks like a Web site, so to speak. Just install Semiologic’s (free) Static front page plugin for WordPress, and you can create a traditional web site home page.
