Want to increase the traffic to your blog? The easiest way is by choosing keywords which are entered into the search engine query boxes by the people you want to attract.
Easy, right? Well…
Yes and no. If you choose keywords which are highly competitive, you’re shooting yourself in the foot. You won’t rank (get found) for those keywords for years, if ever.
“Choosing Keywords and Key Phrases for SEO” is an excellent post on how to choose keywords. Keep this in mind -
Choose Keywords and Key Phrases that are Unique:
When using keyword generators and online keyword search tools, a highly recommended process, be sure that you do not select the most popular keywords from the top of the list. Instead, it is better to focus on keywords that are used less frequently. Why? You are ensuring a higher listing in search engines whenever the unique phrasing is used because there may be less competition and you will be getting the targeted traffic you want.
Put some thought into your keywords, especially if you want traffic NOW. I’ve found that I get 99 per cent of my blog’s traffic from Google, and 80 per cent of that is for unique keywords.
