If you want to make money blogging, you need to read Steve Pavlina’s brutally honest post “How To Make Money From Your Blog”. Steve tells it like it is, and he knows whereof he speaks: currently he’s earning $1000 a day from his blog:
StevePavlina.com was launched on Oct 1st, 2004. By April 2005 it was averaging $4.12/day in income. Now it brings in over $1000/day (updated as of 10/29/06). I didn’t spend a dime on marketing or promotion. In fact, I started this site with just $9 to register the domain name, and everything was bootstrapped from there. Would you like to know how I did it?
I especially like Steve’s advice to choose a niche that you’re passionate about, and that you know well. Many new bloggers go through a tortuous process of selecting a niche they hope will be “profitable”, working on how much people are paying for clicks on AdWords etc. This is all very well, but spending part of each day writing about mortgages or plastic surgery can get hard really fast. And if you’re too reliant on one source of income like AdSense, you’re sunk when Google changes the rules.
