When you’re thinking about becoming a freelance blogger, your first thought is “how much?” I’ve heard of bloggers being paid tiny amounts – like $5 per post – which is ridiculous, and leads to what I call the “copy, paste and mangle” style of post. This is fundamentally just plagiarizing others’ work at worst, or at best, copying news releases.
Professional blogging for corps – $1000 a week
“How Much Per Post: The Figures” is an excellent post at Blogging Pro giving a rundown on what bloggers are currently earning. Lately I’ve been offered blogging jobs at $1000 to $2000 a week, so this statement sounds about right:
Expect to pay a blogger with a year or more of experience around $1750 and up. Bloggers with higher credibility or even more experience deserve more, and could be making from reports that I have heard upwards of $3000 to $4000 a month.
I’ve got no personal experience of blogging networks, but joining a network is an option if you’re just starting out blogging, and want to get some experience. You’ve got others handling the nitty gritty of monetization and setting up your blog and posts.
Bloggers’ pay will go up
As more companies come to understand blogging and the benefits that it can have for their business, bloggers’ pay will go up. I’ve been blogging since 2001, and until 2004 paying bloggers was a novelty. Now blogging has turned into a real profession.
If you want to get started freelance blogging, or as a blog entrepreneur, my ebook Blogging for Dollars gives you all the information you need – you can turn blogging into a full-time career, and blog from the beach or anywhere else.
