Blogging is No Budget marketing – Adopt A Sheep

If you need PR, and don’t have a budget, you need a great idea, and a blog. Michael Kiely is a marketing whiz. He created his Adopt A Sheep Blog to save his merino flock and feed them during Australia’s on-going drought. He says:

I was just sitting here late one night, unable to sleep, trying to think of ways to finance the next 100 days feeding – hay and grain – when I had a flash of inspiration. I thought about you and all the people like you who love the land and love animals. I had this stupid idea to offer you the chance to adopt one of our ewes or lambs. Or one of the rams. They’ve all got beautiful natures and loads of personality. Sheep are more intelligent than many give them credit for. They can identify up to a dozen faces, including humans. They can learn their names. They have their own social circles. A couple of ewes will conduct a creche of lambs, for instance, allowing the other ewes to go off foraging for feed.

It’s working. He’s getting loads of media attention. Wherever you are in the world, I’m sure you’ll hear about Michael and his sheep on TV and radio in the coming weeks.
