Blogging Your Blogging Business

As a freelance blogger, you’re running your own business. This means that you should blog your business in exactly the same way you blog other people’s businesses.

So how do you blog your blogging business? It’s simple. Just blog. (Note: your business blog should be separate from your own personal blog.) Tell people what’s happening in your blogging business. When you’re writing a blog for a company, if it’s okay with the company, mention that you’re writing for them on your own blog — most companies are fine with this, because it gives them free publicity.

I blog my copywriting business on my The Creativity Factory Marketing Copywriting Blog. I write about anything and everything that might interest my clients and prospective clients, and you can do the same.

Write about those topics which interest your clients. Usually, you’ll write about business topics — marketing, sales, human resources, and Internet marketing. Be aware that in addition to writing for people, you’re also writing to be found in the search engines. Use keywords in your blog posts like “freelance blogger”, “blog writer”, “professional blogger” – whichever keywords your clients will use.

Keep adding entries to your blog.

Every three or four posts, mention that you blog for businesses. Each of these mentions is an advertisement for your blogging business — yes, it’s fine to do this! You’re not blogging for your health, you’re blogging to make money. The big benefit is, that as your blog posts are indexed in the search engines, your customers will find you. The more posts you make, the greater your chances of being found.

You will see the most benefit from this over time. Indexing isn’t instant – although it can be. I’ve found with my own blogs, that traffic tends to treble every three months, with the biggest increase at the three to six-month period (this is when the majority of your posts will start to be indexed by the search engines).

So if you’re getting 10 visitors a day in the first month, you will get around 50 a day in the third month, around 500 a day after six months if you blog several times a week, and 1500 at the nine-month stage. Of course, this levels off – depending on the keywords you choose, the amount of traffic searching using those words varies.

To discover how many people are searching using your chosen keywords, you can use the Overture Inventory tool.

Blogging your blogging business pays off – in a very big way, over time.
