I love writing blog content, because I LOVE instant gratification. Type, type, type… hit Publish and whoopee, another blog post done.
However, with some blogs you can feel like a hamster on a wheel – endlessly churning out content. This hamster-feeling is a signal that you may be stressing needlessly.
It depends on you. You must find ways to make blogging fun for yourself.
Writing blog content is fun – if you make it fun
If your blogging’s no longer fun, here’s what to do. If the blog’s your own, take a two-week vacation from the blog. After two weeks, you should be feeling more inspired. If not, consider changing the way you monetize the blog, or sell it.
Unfortunately, if you’re blogging under contract, you can’t take time off, so here’s a tried and test method which works.
At the beginning of the week, write snippets. A “snippet” is a nugget of information that you want to share with readers, either your own personal experience, or material that you’ve researched. A snippet can be a sentence, a paragraph, or even just one word. I collect snippets for my contract blogs as I research online for other projects.
The big benefit of snippets is that they allow your subconscious mind to work on the eventual posts while you do something else. When it’s time to write the post, you’ll find that when you start with a snippet, it’s a seed which grows your post. You’ll have a complete post in half the time, and you’ll never experience that “what the heck can I write about” feeling.
Try snippets.
