You’re ready to start blogging. You’ve decided on a focus for your blog. You’ve assessed the viability – people are hunting for information on your chosen niche topic, and there are advertisers, so you should be able to make money with this topic.

You’ve decided on a WordPress blog, because you want a proper Content Management System (CMS) and real control over your blog.

Now it’s time to choose a WordPress template (theme).

Here are some great resources:

* The Word Press Theme Viewer – searchable themes

* Theme Porter - this site is new to me – the themes are lovely

* 83 WordPress Themes – wonderful, glorious themes

* Dosh Dosh’s ProSense theme – new theme, easy to monetize: this is a theme I’ll be using myself for a test site. (BTW, there’s excellent info on this site.)

Tips for choosing a great theme for your own special needs

1. Don’t sweat it. One thing’s for sure, you’ll change your theme often in the coming months and years. No theme is perfect, because your needs will change.

2. Get a theme which supports widgets. They’re very useful.

3. Test your theme after you install it. Sometimes new themes behave in unexpected ways.

4. If you’re using AdSense, use an AdSense-ready theme… it’s easier.

5. If you can afford it, join PLR Pro. They have a wonderful WordPress installer, which is worth the cost of the monthly subscription – it just makes WP easier, because the installer installs WP in a flash, with every possible plugin you need for monetization. I’ve been a happy PLR PR member for several months, and bitterly regret not joining sooner.
