Blogs are fun. And they make money. So if one blog is good, ten blogs must be super-good, right?

Yes, if you know that you can manage a large stable of blogs. :-)
My own blogs have been sprouting all over, breeding blog-puppies. (There’s a list of my current writing blogs below.) Pro bloggers blog for money, so it’s not unusual for pro bloggers to manage stables of 20 to 30 blogs, and if I include my contract blogs, I’m reaching around 20 blogs myself.

Here are six tips on how to manage your own stable of blogs:

1. Focus each blog sharply. Each blog must have its own reason for existence. Ensure that you target specific audiences with each blog.

2. Your calendar is your friend. Schedule your content-development monthly. I like to get right away from the office to think about blogging. I create mind maps of content that I want to develop for each blog, and make lists of titles and ideas. Then I schedule those in for the month.

3. When you’re writing content, write. Writing fast is second nature to me now. I wrote an ebook of my tips - “Top 70 Writing Tips To Help You To Write More” and I reread this occasionally to remind myself. The tips work.

Close your office door, and just write, until you finish drafts of several blog postings. These drafts can be very rough, but at least you’ve made a start. Polish the drafts when you’re ready to post them.

4. Subscribe to blog feeds, and read them in a feed reader. I use BlogLines, Technorati and NetVibes. You can check out what other bloggers are talking about at a glance.

5. Remember monetization. Schedule time each week to research monetization options for each blog. It’s useful to see what other bloggers are doing, but ultimately you need to experiment on your own blogs to see what people respond to.

6. Relax. When you’re creating a blog network, you’re obviously blogging for the long term, and Rome wasn’t etc. :-) As they age, your blogs build links all by themselves. So there’s no need to get frazzled. Do what you can, when you can.
