Many new bloggers get stuck on the “yes, but what will I blog about?” aspect of blogging.
Tip: it doesn’t matter. Start a blog about anything, as long as the topic has ADVERTISERS. Type your topic into Google, and see whether there are advertisers – the “Sponsored Links” on the right side of the search query results page. If there are advertisers, people are spending money on the topic, and you’ll make money too.
I usually recommend to my blogging students that they start two blogs, not just one: a blog about blogging itself, and a blog in a money-making niche.
Your blog about blogging
The first blog, a blog about blogging, is a learning tool. Blog about what you’re learning about blogging, and experiment on the blog itself. Look on this blog as an anything goes, test blog. Because it’s in the blogging niche, your blog about blogging may make a bit of money when you add advertising to it, but that’s not it’s main function.
Your money-making niche blog
This blog is a blog from which you intend to earn money. Choose a niche which appeals to you, and make the niche very narrow.
For example, “weight loss” is too broad a niche, because the competition is huge. Do some keyword research and find a tiny niche within the weight loss niche that you could exploit. I haven’t one any research on this, but think along the lines of the various diets – Atkins, Zone, etc which might work. (This is only an example, you’ll need to research the keywords yourself, and discover how many searches a day your potential niche attracts, as well as whether there are affiliate programs within the niche.)
Just pick a topic, and START
Your blogging expertise will grow as you blog. I always find that I get lots of ideas when I’m writing, and this will happen to you as you blog. Your ideas will flow when you actually do it.
Your biggest enemy is INACTION. Blogging is what you make it, so there’s no way you can fail, as long as you’re taking action.
