Problogger has an interesting post “8.9 Posts Per Week – Too Many? Not Enough?”. They conducted a mini-survey, and discovered that the respondents’ average number of posts was 8.9 per week. Obviously the bloggers who responded were people who take blogging seriously.
So, are more posts per day/ week better?
It obviously depends on your goals for a particular blog. I look at a blog as a resource, and a venue, and agree with Lorelle, that:
Consistent content creates a body of work. A body of work creates a reputation. People learn by visiting your site that you have the information they need on a specific subject, so they are more inclined to return. That creates a stable and consistent readership, and it makes you the expert on the subject.
You own mileage may be different.
It all depends on you, and your goal for a blog. I talked about drive-by blogging, which is fast blogging – it’s not necessary to turn every blog into a venue. That may not be your goal for a particular blog. Bottom line, a blog is a Web site, and there are many different kinds of Web sites: your goals and mission for a particular blog are what’s important. You decide what you want a blog to do.
That said, blogs can surprise you. I’ve created drive-by blogs which suddenly started to get a lot of attention, and have revised my goals for those blogs. The surprises you get along the way are what make blogging fun.
