There are dozens of blog platforms, and I’ve tried many of them. Some are great. Some are horrible: I spent three figures on one platform which was a complete and utter disaster, and which I won’t name.
My current favorites are WordPress, TypePad and TeraPad.
Why I like WordPress
WordPress is as simple, or as complex, as you want it to be. I’m a tinkerer and tweaker. This is sometimes a good thing, but often it’s not: I’ve had to learn the hard way that “Leave it alone if it’s working!” is usually the best idea. If you like to tinker, WordPress is made for you.
You can mold WordPress to your needs: use it to create a simple Web site, a blog, or a Content Management System (CMS).
Why I like TypePad
I can sum up TypePad’s appeal in one word: service. In three years of blogging on my TypePad blog, I’ve only had to yell for help a couple of times. Each time the response was swift and fixed the problem, whatever it was at the time.
If you want a hassle-free full-service blog, TypePad is for you.
Why I like TeraPad
TeraPad does it all: it’s one-stop-shopping. I’ve got a small blog on TeraPad, and I haven’t begun to scratch the surface of what it can do. If you want a blog/ Web site/ forum/ online store, TeraPad is for you.
So, WordPress, TypePad and TeraPad are currently tops with me, what’s YOUR favorite platform, and why? Please share your favorite in the Comments to this post.
