It’s easy to make mistakes while you’re blogging, but don’t let that slow you down. Most blogging mistakes are easy to correct, and none are fatal.
You WILL make mistakes – this is how you learn. Ask any pro blogger, and they’ll tell you they learned much more from their mistakes than from their successes.
So let’s look at my top two mistakes that I see in my blogging students and how you can fix them:
Mistake #1: The blog lacks focus
You can blog about anything you choose. However, skipping all over the map when you blog makes it difficult to get regular readers. Choose a single focus for your blog and stick to it. Add the focus to your blog’s title – this will keep you on track: “photography”, “cooking”, “self-development”, etc.
If you want to write about something which isn’t directly related to your blog’s focus, create another blog. You can combine topics you’re passionate about in a single blog, but this takes a lot of skill.
If you’ve been blogging about several topics: choose one, and stick to it. Hive off the other topics into their own blogs.
Mistake #2: The blog lacks content
Unless you’re creating a drive-by blog, which has a single purpose, your blog needs content. As you add content, you get readers, and readers give you opportunities for monetization.
In my blogging ebook I give you a blogging plan to follow. You need a plan for adding content, otherwise you’ll procrastinate. When you have a plan, you can blog in your spare time: in ten minutes, if that’s all the time you have available.
So, create a blogging schedule. There’s no need to blog every day. Some niche blogs don’t need it. Set a two-posts a week schedule (or one post a week).
OTOH, if you’ve jumped into a highly competitive niche in which other people are making great money, you will need to blog every day – even several times a day, so you can compete with others in your niche.
In blogging, consistency gets results. Stick to your blogging schedule, and before you know it, you’ll have a blog with great content.
