Blogs are wonderful traffic magnets. Just the fact that you’re creating a blog, with its in-built RSS feeds, rather than a Web site, ensures that you get traffic because search engines index your blog quickly.
I’ve proved this to my own satisfaction. Around six months ago I created several blogs for small business clients, and those blogs have been great in boosting the clients’ businesses, even though none of the clients did any specific marketing at all for the blogs, other than updating their blog two or three times a week.
So if you don’t want to, you don’t have to flail around marketing your blog. Your blog will increase its traffic, all you need to do is add content.
That said, a little promotion doesn’t hurt. One of the easiest ways to get people to return to your blog is by creating a mailing list.
A mailing list brings people back to your blog
A simple mailing list is effective in reminding people that you exist. Some mailing list providers, like aweber, will allow your mailings to consist of your RSS feed, so you don’t have to do anything special to send a list: your subscribers will get a list of your most recent posts.
