Blog scraping has been going on as long as there are blogs. Scraping is the reason I no longer offer the full text of my blog posts in RSS feeds.
Essentially, a scraper republishes your content, with his advertising attached, so that he can make money. It’s all done automatically; using scripts. These grimy little gnomes aren’t copying and pasting manually: they send out harvesting bots and republish on their own Web sites. Wholesale, automatic theft.
Apparently scrapers are targeting WordPress.com now - Lorelle’s posted “WordPress.com Blogs Feeds Scraped”.
She tells you what action to take:
* Report to WordPress.com
* Report to Google
Do it.
I’m not big on ratting on others. My general philosophy is to live and let live. However, when people scrape your blog not only are they stealing your content now, they’re stealing it in the future too: your own blog can drop out of the search engine rankings because it’s regarded as “duplicate content.”
Not amusing if you’re the blog’s creator: to be dubbed a copier. How’s that for working for free?
Report these parasites.
