Monetizing your blog with advertising 1: Google AdSense

by angela.booth on September 17, 2007

Once your blog is up and running, you’ll want to start developing advertising revenue streams. In this series, we’ll look at blog advertising money-making strategies.

One of the easiest ways to have money coming in is via Google AdSense.

(If you have a WordPress blog, here’s how to get an AdSense-ready theme for WordPress.)

Your AdSense revenue depends on who’s advertising

AdSense isn’t coining money for bloggers as it was in 2004. If you’re depressed because your AdSense revenue is lower than you hoped, remember that your revenue depends on who’s advertising at the moment, and how much they’re paying for ads. Your revenue also depends on the smart-pricing feature.

Your revenue will vary from day to day; to judge how well you’re doing, make a note of your monthly revenue. It will increase each month.

While you shouldn’t rely on AdSense for all your blog income – there are much better ways of monetizing your blog – AdSense has the benefit of being EASY. Even with minimal traffic, you’ll make money. And of course as your content and traffic continue to grow, so will your AdSense income.
