I admit I write some niche blogs on topics in which I have little interest. You’d think that after so many years of writing I’d have learned that enthusiasm counts. When you write with enthusiasm, not only is your writing fun to read, it’s fun to write.

You soon run into a major road block when you’re uninterested in a niche. You have nothing to say - and researching the topic is painful. Considering that an authority blog takes years rather than months to build, you can see where you’re headed.

As Lessons Learned From A Google-Slapped Niche Blog reports: “… you should only start a blog on a topic that have a very strong interest in. I had hoped that because I was only trying to rank for fairly uncompetitive phrases updating the blog regularly would not be necessary. Clearly I was mistaken. However, in a few months time the site will probably be taken out of the sandboxed like state it is currently in and will start earning me $1 a day again without me even doing anything. For a new site that is not trusted by Google, frequent updates and fresh inbound links are essential.”

If you’re writing a brand new blog, links - trusted links - are essential. Tip: buy a few good links if you can’t get them any other way. Links are vital to start gaining some attention from the search engines. Of course, if you’re passionate about your topic getting those links is easy - just write a few good articles, offer them to other sites, and just like magic, you’ve got links.

Everything good starts with your passion.
