“Blogger’s block” is just writer’s block, and like writer’s block, it doesn’t exist. It’s procrastination in fancy dress.
If you’re stuck blogging, try:
* Going for a long walk, and talking into a digital recorder;
* Taking yourself and your computer to a coffee shop;
* Making a list of ten things you hate, and ten things you love (this stirs your emotions, often there’s something bothering you which you’re repressing; you may become conscious of it by listing loves/ hates);
* Writing ten one-word topics onto index cards. Shove the cards into your pocket. Take them out occasionally and flip through them. If you feel like it, you can add a sentence to a card - if you don’t feel like it, don’t;
* Writing 50 words every time you turn on your computer. The 50 words can be about anything at all - they’re just a way of priming the pump;
* Read other blogs - you’ll often (always) disagree with others’ points of view. This is good. Blog about it.
I’m with Bloggers Block? How about Inspiration Overflow! who says: “I have right now at least 5 already researched articles in my to-do list, I just have to write them down, at least another 5 loom in my head.”
I’ve been writing for some 30 years. At times, I’ve been blocked. The benefit of lots of practice in writing however is that I’ve grown out of blocks - I either write something, or I don’t.
When I sit down to write, I write - you can do it too. Try my 70 Tips. They work.
