Source: FotoliaHere’s a new blogging tool which is lots of fun - it helps you to find material to enhance your blog posts.
I admit I was leery of Zemanta at first — the programm sounded highly dubious and suspect, but it’s actually very engaging. Sort of like having a busy little assistant at your elbow.
Zemanta makes useful suggestions as you blog. It’s a Firefox extension, and currently works with WordPress, Blogger and Typepad.
I tried it out on a previous blog post on another blog, and within 300 characters Zemanta had made some suggestions of images and articles that I might like to add to the post.
I wrote this post in a text editor, and then pasted it into WordPress’s editor, and Zemanta made some suggestions almost immediately.
This doesn’t mean that you don’t need to write your own blog posts. Zemanta doesn’t do the heavy lifting for you. You still need to write your own content.
Zemanta merely provides some images, as well as links to articles, which are shown as a related articles at the end of your blog post. Ths makes your posts more useful for your readers, and you don’t have to go hunting for the extra material, Zemanta does it for you.
I can’t see myself using it on long posts, but on short breezy posts, Zemanta adds a little spice.
Give it a try - if you’re a keen blogger, you know that occasionally inspiration runs dry - Zemanta can boost it again.
