Blog content – how often should you update your blog?

by angela.booth on April 10, 2008

There’s no doubt that blogs benefit from frequent updates. I like to update my blogs several times a week if I can, but sometimes that’s no possible.

When I do update regularly, I get more traffic.

Decide on a schedule for your blog that you know you can meet

With a new blog, you’re filled with inspiration, but this doesn’t last, so create a schedule. I just wrote a post for Blogging Tips “Your Blog’s Editorial Calendar – Get Organized, Then Relax”, which outlines how to create a schedule via an editorial calender for your blog:

Here’s how to create an editorial calendar for a new blog.
1. Choose seven to 10 categories for blog posts
When you’re brainstorming ideas for your new blog, choose from seven to ten categories. This is your “table of contents”. Also, keep the search engines in mind when you create categories. You want your categories to attract attention.
2. Brainstorm five blog post ideas for each category
Let’s say you have ten categories created for your blog. Now brainstorm five posts for each category. This gives you 50 ideas for blog posts, and your new blog looks much less intimidating, because you’ve planned a lot of the content.

It’s good advice, and it will help you to get into a routine. Once you decide on your schedule, stick to it.
