Blog content pain – eliminate it with drafts

by angela.booth on April 17, 2008

Do you struggle to write content for your blog?

Here’s a tip which will make it easier: plan your content, and then write it. I keep ideas for blog posts and articles in OmniOutliner, then I transfer the ideas to a specific blog, and write drafts.

A day or week later, I write posts. I separate the planning, drafting and writing.

Having five to ten draft posts in a blog makes writing the content MUCH easier, because you’ve already got a foundation.

Another excellent tip » SEO Aware WordPress Publishing – John Andrews – johnon.com suggests:

“# write the excerpt first, from a perspective of ‘here I am telling the desk editor what this blog post is about and why it is important from her desk’s perspective‘. You can always go back and edit it again later, but writing it first makes sure it gets something in it. Drafting the excerpt will also probably help you forumulate your post (especially the attitude of your post, and the closure it needs).”
