You’ve just installed a new WordPress blog.
What’s the first thing you do?
Choose a theme, right?
No… the first thing you do is plan your content, and write at least five blog posts, in a couple of categories.
It’s tempting to fiddle around with themes, but without content, you won’t be able to assess a theme. Some things you only find out once your blog has content. So stick with the default WordPress theme and create some content.
Next, install the plugins you’ll need – before you change the theme. It’s heart-breaking, but some themes will break plugins, and vice versa, so get your plugins installed, and check that they do what they’re supposed to do. Then if you find a theme that breaks a plugin, you can make an informed choice about which you prefer – that theme, or the plugin.
WordPress is fun to use. It does just about everything you could ever wish for. But before you install a fancy new theme, remember to add content and your plugins.
