New Blogger: small blog or huge content blog?

by angela.booth on November 14, 2008

If you’re a new blogger, there’s a mass of information about blogging on the meta blogs, Pro Blogger et al. It gets confusing, because a lot of the information is contradictory.

Ultimately, YOU decide what you should blog about, and how large your blog needs to be to develop a great income.

I have lots of blogs; I tend to start a new blog whenever I get a new idea. (I’m a Gemini.)

Here’s what you should know about blog sizes:

* Some review-style blogs just need four posts or so, there’s no need to build them up into huge content blogs. Even a small blog can sell;

* Blogs on hot topics (like the iPhone for example) do well if you get a slant on the topic which others aren’t covering;

* Huge content blogs are a commitment. The more content on these blogs the better. As your content grows, so will your traffic.

If you’re considering a new blog, and aren’t sure whether the topic will generate traffic and income, start the blog. You can always sell the blog once it’s generating an income.

Look on your blogs as an investment of time and energy. Most will pay off in a small way, and some will pay off hugely.
