Are you a beginner to blogging? Your success as a blogger starts before you create your first blog. Planning is vital; the more you plan before you start your blog the more success you will have.
Let’s look at three things you should think about before you create your blog.
1. What’s the Blog’s Purpose?
You can have many reasons for blogging. However for each blog you create, create one reason for its existence and write that reason down.
Your reasons for blogging could include: making money, becoming better known in your industry, selling a product (either your own or an affiliate product), or having fun.
2. Who Is the Target Audience?
Who will read your blog? Why will they read your blog? These are questions you need to answer. A very common mistake bloggers make when creating their first blog is to either not think about the audience at all, or choose the wrong target audience.
For example in the “make money blogging” arena new bloggers often choose to create a blog around what they’re learning — how to make money on a blog. However since they haven’t yet learned how to do it themselves, they soon run out of content.
You can certainly target the “make money blogging” audience even if you’re a new blogger and are new to making money, however confine yourself to those things you know. Many bloggers approach this by blogging their earnings or lack of earnings over the blog’s first few months. This tactic works.
Here’s another example. Let’s imagine you’re just been laid off. You’re using your blog as the venue to help you to get a new job. What should you blog about? Who’s the target audience?
Obviously in this situation your target audience is the people who can hire you. You could create a portfolio blog which talks about your successes in your previous employment. As long as you have your target audience in mind your blog will be a success.
3. How Will You Market Your Blog So You Can Connect With Your Audience?
There are many ways to market a blog. Choose methods with which you’re familiar, and which are easy for you. Marketing can be fun, or it can be torture. If you choose methods you enjoy, you’ll find that marketing is fun.
The easiest way to market your blog is to advertise. If you go this route, work out how much money you can afford to spend on marketing and stick to your limits. Don’t start off by using inexpensive marketing methods like Pay Per Click advertising. Pay Per Click is only for experts. However it does work, and it’s the fastest method of marketing your blog.
So there you have it: your blog’s success lies in your planning.
